Sleep in Babies

Newborn

The first months are when babies' sleep is most complex. Although sleep hours decrease as they grow, newborns sleep approximately 16 to 18 hours a day. However, this time is often short, usually in two- or three-hour periods. They sleep throughout the day and night.  There is no clear distinction between the two. Generally, it varies between 30 minutes and 3 hours.  they can fall asleep in no time.

3-6 Months

Between 3 and 6 months, babies' sleep patterns become more distinct. Nighttime sleep patterns also change, and they begin to sleep longer, more uninterrupted periods. They typically sleep 7-8 hours at night and 4-5 hours during the day.

6-9 Months

Babies' sleep patterns are more established between 6 and 9 months old. They can typically sleep for 10-12 hours straight at night. Babies generally wake less frequently during these months and learn to fall asleep on their own throughout the night.

9-12 Months

Babies between 9 and 12 months of age will continue to sleep uninterrupted through the night as their sleep patterns become established. However, some babies may still experience brief periods of wakefulness throughout the night. At this age, babies are better at falling asleep independently.

12+ Months

Babies who are 12 months old will begin to resist daytime naps as they approach the new age. While we still recommend two naps during the day, if your baby struggles with this, stick to one nap a day. Babies need sleep during the day as well as at night until they reach the age of 4. This schedule may vary for each baby, and your baby's sleep behavior during this period will be a guide for you.
